SOTU; just nice words to a Congress out for a one night stand

January 26, 2011

He said nothing dramatic. He stayed in the middle. He offered up some well worded but empty phrases, “Our destiny is our choice.” He promised fiscal responsibility combined with spending and spending and more spending. He views the U.S. as a nation of $X trillion of wealth that he has the power, ability, and responsibility to allocate for us, and he still thinks a tax break is the same as spending in terms of the deficit.

State of the Union should be brief, pragmatic

January 24, 2011

The 2011 State of the Union address is simply too important to be the typical droning on through a laundry list of visions. President Obama should try to be brief and highly pragmatic. He can and should lay out his vision for the nation in a 30 minute speech…

Olbermann’s sign-off opportunity for MSNBC, liberals

January 22, 2011

MSNBC has an opportunity to replace Olbermann with intelligent, rational liberal thought. To do so would be an important step toward rescuing liberal/progressive politics.

Church state separation gone awry

January 22, 2011

Unless Americans United for Separation of Church and State can demonstrate a concrete need for intervention they should back off of their Cherokee county case. The school district can not afford the cost and effort of a law suit and Americans United for Separation of Church and State’s services are badly needed where the extremists hold power.

Santorum meant what he said

January 21, 2011

If pro-choice advocates want to make progress on their cause they will understand this simple fact: Santorum meant what he said. Santorum and many other Americans believe with all of their heart and soul that an unborn child is life and therefore they are defending life, just as those in the civil rights movement and those that fought slavery defended life.

Obama’s regulatory review order takes liberal fire

January 19, 2011

The criticisms from supporters are a continuation of small-minded anger, like that shown for his handling of the gulf oil spill, that demonstrate the shallowness of many of his supporters.

Gun debate is fair

January 18, 2011

Sorry folks. While I believe fully in the Second Amendment, I have to acknowledge that gun control advocates have a valid issue on which to challenge those of us that support the Second Amendment. As Barr wrote, the shooter in Arizona is, “clearly a deranged individual.”
