The first news reports that I heard following the earthquake were that less than 100 had so far been reported killed, but that the quake was incredibly powerful. You had to know that the news would get far worse and that unfortunately the situation would probably grow worse. It has.
My thoughts and prayers and those of my entire family and many of my readers are with the people of Japan. And with those of Christ Church, New Zealand, and Haiti, and victims of natural disasters everywhere.

When we first heard the low casualty numbers I remembered after the Westwood quake in California. The communities with light casualties were able to report, but the ones most tragically affected weren’t in communication for several hours. It’s eerie to hear the early reports and to know it’s bound to be much, much worse. Our thoughts and prayers go out.
