UPDATE 7:15 p.m. EST. Message to the world; I have been through many news web sites and listened to both sides of the political spectrum, from extreme right-wing radio talk show hosts all the way to extreme left-wing cable hosts. My conclusion: America is united in its rebuke of those that plan to burn the Quran. We certainly have our dispute with the Islam that supports violence and refuses to accept other religious views, but there is no reason to cause pain to those Muslims that want peace.

Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center plans to hold a mass Quran burning this weekend as a protest against the terrorist acts of 9/11. The pastor plans to burn the Qurans despite a warning from General Petraeus that, “images of the burning of a Quran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan—and around the world—to inflame public opinion and incite violence.”
Mr. Jones evangelical Christian church has an anti-Islam philosophy, according to the Wall Street Journal. This anti-Islam philosophy does not account for Mr. Jones’ desire to lower himself, his church, and his followers, to the level of violent Islamic zealots. Islamic extremists burn American flags, Christian Bibles, the Torah, and kill people. For Jones to burn Muslim holy books is no different than what the extremist Muslims do, right down to the killing – his action will lead to deaths of U.S. soldiers and probably U.S. citizens, employees of U.S. companies, and moderate Muslims because riots will certainly sweep the Islamic world.
One would hope that Mr. Jones, who the Journal says has left the door open to changing his mind and is “Still praying about his decision,” would recognize that We the People respect differing religions. We understand that burning the Quran will hurt many Muslims who oppose terror but do not have the courage or ability to stand up against terror.
Burning Qurans will not help moderate Muslims take a stand against extremists. Burning Qurans will instead feed the flame of Islamic extremism making it more likely that the west will remain at war with Islam for generations.
Perhaps during his prayers, Mr. Jones will receive the word of God and not commit this act of hate toward another religion. Or, perhaps God will allow Mr. Jones to become an example; a person that We the People can hold up to the moderate followers of Islam and say, “We have our crazies too. We the People of the United States rebuke them. You the People of Islam should do the same to your crazies – terrorists.”
The U.S. needs to remain separate and different than those that use religious extremism as an excuse.

Seriously?! These most be the most moronic lines of logic I have ever read.
So some pastor has a church with 50-100 members. And him burning some Korans is: 1) equivalent to terrorism, including murdering people. 2) will cause moderate muslims to not face the extremist faction 3) be responsible for the west being “at war with Islam” (those are your words, I thought we weren’t at war with Islam?
Where were you when Christ was displayed in urine, and the crucifix displayed in urine, the Virgin Mary covered in elephant dung, the American flag (the ultimate symbol of freedom) stomped on and burned, President Bush burned in effigy, hung in effigy.

Well, after re-reading my post above I must admit that I allowed my emotions to get the better of me. After reading and listening to the supposed leaders of this country for the entire day before I came across this blog posting at a state of heightened emotion. And normally I refrain from posting in those instances, so cooler thoughts and arguments prevail and are not clouded by detracting, disparaging terms. The use of the term ‘coward’ is a description that should rarely be used or needed and should be reserved for more dire situations and a truly accurate descriptions of someone’s actions.
That being said I still believe you are sorely misguided and stand by the previous arguments I have made. “We the People” did NOT rebuke the Quran burners. YOU may have. And others that you agree with may have, but not “We the People”.
And to equate the pastor Jones to terrorists in the “We have crazies, too” argument stretches any kind of basis in reality even further. It is VERY difficult to find anyone who has committed terrorists acts in this country in the Name of a Christian God who has not been incarcerated or executed. How many Islamists are there who will ? Plenty! Which “sect”, or entire group of Christians believe in terrorism as an acceptable manner spreading the word of God ?!
