MSM not fooled by “End of combat operations”

I have to give a rare shout-out to the mainstream media for not being taken in by President Obama’s proclamation that combat operations in Iraq are over.  The combat is not over and by my overview of the reporting, no one on either the left or right of the political spectrum gives much credence to the President’s speech.

That troop levels are down to 50,000 might be a good thing if Iraq stabilizes and we can bring the rest home soon.  Kudos to the President if and when that occurs.

I do have to criticize the host of CNN’s Reliable Sources. Despite the correct protestations by guest Fred Francis, host Howard Kurtz seems stuck on the question of why the media and the public are not paying much attention to Iraq right now.  The answer to your questions, Howard, is that there is nothing new to report.  Nothing has changed.  As Francis keeps telling you, combat operations have not ended.  The war is not over.  The only news is to figure out why Obama used a national speech to make a claim that is so blatantly false.
