In the past few weeks the news has contained two disturbing stories regarding Islam, the Taliban, and the failure of Muslims to stand up for their own. The first was the execution style murder by the Taliban of western aid workers that had gone on a picnic in Afghanistan. The second was the Taliban’s threat to kill western aid workers attempting to help the flood victims of Pakistan. (Pakistan has denied knowledge of the threat).
Due to the Taliban’s actions, hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of men, women, and children, Muslims, face terrible hardships and even death. (True that the same can be said of the very existence of the Taliban, but for this article I need to focus).
Where are the fatwas against Taliban leaders? Where are the protests in Muslim capitals? Where are the protests in Europe? Where is the anger from the men of Islam against the Taliban? Where is the outrage?
Answer: I have no idea. I have looked but I can not find any examples.
Compare this to the reaction when Israel takes any action to protect innocent civilians against terrorist attacks and you see a dramatic difference. When Israelis kill a Muslim terrorist while defending themselves, the Muslim streets explode as do protests throughout the world. The UN rushes to condemn Israel, Europeans protest, professors attempt to make the academic ranks Judenrein, and laborers refuse to unload Israeli goods. In contrast, when Muslims are threatened or killed by Muslims the world is quiet. The suicide bombers are serene and so is the Muslim street, as are the European capitals, and most of the world. At colleges and universities professors report to eager journalists how the problem is the fault of the U.S. or the Jews. But no one cares about innocent Muslim lives, no one acts, least of all other Muslims.
We live in a crazy world.
We the People may need that mosque near Ground Zero so that American Muslims can learn about peace, charity, and caring for others. Perhaps when they learn those traits here in the U.S. they will spread those lessons to Muslims abroad.

well seeing as the imam of this mosque says that the usa has more muslims blood on her hands than al qaeda, i don’t think that is what american muslims will be learning there

Great article! However, it’s doubtful that Muslims would learn anything useful in a mosque at Ground Zero that couldn’t be taught elsewhere.
