Arizona’s illegal immigration bill blocked

The management of illegal immigration is back in control of the Federal government that has, to date, failed in this issue.  A judge has blocked key portions of the bill that was to go into effect Thursday. The blocked portions include requirements that police officers check immigration status while enforcing other laws, and requiring immigrants to carry papers.

I am not surprised by this ruling. Back in April I wrote of my concerns that the bill could be seen as racial profiling:

Stopping American citizens based on skin color is not acceptable. As I read this bill from the mindset of a citizen that wants illegal immigration stopped, I understand that the intent of the Arizona legislature is clearly to stop illegal immigration without hurting civil rights – there is plenty of language to require police to have a “reasonable suspicion.” There is also plenty of wiggle room for abuse of the law.

Arizona did what it had to do to protect its citizens in light of the Federal governments failure to do their job. Both Democrats and Republicans have failed – finger point is hypocrisy.

What will surprise me?………..

…..If federal officials to set aside their efforts to buy future votes and actually deal with the illegal immigration issue honorably: 1) Secure the border, and; 2) Fix legal immigration so that the U.S. remains a bastion of hope, and is prepared to handle the economic challenges from our aging workforce with young, dynamic, first generation American citizens.

That’s too much for a bumper sticker so it will never happen
