The greatest threat to the future of the United States is not, as a recent Gallup poll claims, the national debt (per The Heritage Foundation blog). The threat is not Obama’s secular socialist machine as Newt Gingrich believes, nor partisanship, Tea Partiers, Sarah Palin, or gushing oil in the Gulf.
The greatest threat to the future of the United States is We the People’s lack of understanding of two subjects vital to responsible participation in our process of self government:
1) How the governing process is supposed to work, i.e., The United States Constitution, and why the Constitution is still important in our modern era;
2) Fundamental economics; for understanding tax and economic policy.
The threat from the lack of understanding these two important subjects means that the most powerful force in America today is not Hope, nor Change. It is not religion, secularism, capitalism or socialism. The most powerful force in America today is ignorance.
