Did legal immigrants make a mistake coming here legally?

“I came in this country in 2004 on student visa. I paid $40,000 tuition fees for my Master, M.S Computer Science Degree. I had Master in Computer Management and Master Diploma in Business Administration before I came here,” wrote Aman in a comment to one of my earlier posts.  “Did I make mistake coming to America legally?”

Aman wants to demonstrate his ability and help America.  He wants to do that with the knowledge gained through his three Masters Degrees and, though not stated directly, the ambition that would lead a man to earn three Masters.

Aman wonders if he will get the proper legal permission to remain here and work.  He is facing a number of serious challenges, and he is waiting a long time.  Meanwhile, millions of Americans want to grant illegal aliens the right to remain in this country, even though they entered illegally.

Aman, I hope that you did not make a mistake.  You see, Aman, I have a special place in my heart for people like you because the United States of America is founded on legal immigration (there were not always immigration rules – I know that).  Immigration to the U.S., even legally, has always been a challenge.  For immigrants, leaving their places of birth, leaving the known and going to the unknown, with new people, a different language, and strange customs, must be very scary.  It is surely a great challenge.  That is why only the best and the brightest, the most ambitious came to this country.  This is why the United States of America is a great nation.

I have to add that if more people like you make your lives here in the U.S. there will be more jobs for people like me (product management).

Folks, a big part of fixing immigration is to make sure that people like Aman, who have a great deal of value to offer this country, can take part in rebuilding this nation, and view the incentives of coming to this country via the rules as worthwhile.  That is how we build our next generation of great immigrants to this great country.

Thank you Robert for giving place in your heart and understanding my thoughts on immigration. I think , I got my answer. I made the right choice to come to America.
