Cognitive barriers to global warming, Democrats and dependency, and settlement for peace

Warming skeptics face cognitive barriers that supporters don’t have?!?!
Take a look at this claim that liberal’s cognitive processes allow them to be open-minded but conservatives are unable to grasp global warming. Funny thing but it seems to me that Professor Lakoff has failed to acknowledge his own bias that has caused him to project lack of open-mindedness on global warming skeptics. Thoughts?

Democrats seeking control, not dependency
George Will believes that Democrats are deliberately trying to build a culture of government dependency. I don’t buy his argument.

My view is that Democrats believe that if they can gain control of key elements of the economy and political structure then they can apply their significant intellectual superiority to run things better than when people are left to themselves.

There is a difference between my view and Will’s view and it is worthy of discussion if we hope to ever get liberals to open their minds to other views. Note: Same is true for getting conservatives to open their minds.

Settlements are not the barrier to peace
The Huffington Post is all abuzz over Israel’s settlement plans. The general belief among those angered over Israel’s settlement plans is that the settlements are the problem in all of the Middle East.

This is wrong. The settlement issue will eventually have to be solved, true. But the problem is the existence of Jews not under the laws of Dhimmi. The real barriers are the Palestinian’s refusal to break away from their role as pawns to Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, etc.

By the way, did you notice the recent statements by UN leaders against Israel’s blockade of Gaza? How come the UN doesn’t also condemn Egypt with similar force? Answer: the UN is a hopelessly corrupt, anti-Jewish anti-American cesspool. And it always will be that and nothing more. What a waste.

GOP victory lap???
Did GOP members of Congress celebrate healthcare’s passage with a victory lap of their own?  I certainly hope not but this report from Politico certainly suggests that they did sort of.

“As Democrats frantically tried to cobble together votes to pass their sweeping health care reform legislation Saturday, House Republicans began a victory lap of sorts.”

Republicans expect anger over the Democrat’s healthcare legislation to lead to big Republican victories in November.  As such, they have grown a bit giddy lately.

My thoughts on all of this?

I have complete faith in the Republicans ability to completely blow their lead by November.  Given the Republican’s history of sex scandals and forays into individual issues of morality November appears to be a long way off.

I got a cramp in my side just reading about the GOP on a victory lap.
