Shin Bet, Israel’s secret service, is “committed to a constitution but Hamas targets civilians,” according Mosab Yousef, son of Hamas founder Sheikh Hassan Yousef. “There’s a difference between targeting a terrorist and civilians,” according to Mosab who became one of Israel’s top spies working against Hamas.

Mosab told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour that he came to believe Hamas was practicing “exceptional cruelty” against its members and “killed people for no reason.”

Yousef turned against Hamas while in an Israeli prison, according to the Wall Street Journal.  “Every day, there was screaming; every night, torture. Hamas was torturing its own people!” he said of the “maj’d,” Hamas’s security wing which operated in the prison.

“There is a logical explanation,” he explains of his conversion. “Simply my enemies of yesterday became my friends. And the friends of yesterday became really my enemies.”

Mosab’s story should be a lesson to the entire world; Supportors of Israel and supporters of the Palestinian people should share the common goal of driving terrorist groups out of the Palestinian territories.  The Palestinian people need to recognize that the ones they think of as their enemies are really their friends, while the terrorist they consider friends are enemies.

Mosab has lives in the U.S. and has written a book, “Son of Hamas.”
