Pelosi and the powerful political class

by Robert S. Siegel on February 3, 2010

Heavy workload on the job search front today so only a brief post.

In response to comments on yesterday’s piece, Party on Madam Speaker! I want to point out;

Were this a public company the stockholders would have the option and obligation to provide or not provide this level of luxury to their employees.  As this has occurred at a government organization, We the People have the right and obligation to decide whether or not to provide this level of luxury to public servants. It is my contention that We the People have better things to do with our money than to provide these luxuries.

Were Pelosi and her benefactors to feel that as a result of our removing these luxuries they needed to leave to seek a better deal in some other area of employment, that would be just fine.  Same for all politicians.  Were I a stockholder of a publicly held company my fellow stockholders and I would have that decision to make about employees.  Because the public continues to accept this use of funds We the People have deemed this use to be okay.

I hope to change that.

Her constituents have the right to vote her out, and our representatives have the right to vote her out as Speaker. Personally, I think they should look at it, because she has failed as a leader. She will probably fail to produce healthcare reform, not because she doesn’t want it, or the American people don’t, but because she can’t marshall the votes to pass the Senate bill in the House, and because she’s probably going to let corporate interests run all over the consumers after being bailed out by the taxpayers.

Robert, I know you are a principled person, and I bet you can refer me to a blog in which you raised this issue during a Republican majority, which makes you better than most of the political hacks out there. But bringing up this type of waste is great for getting people angry, not for getting our problems addressed. Does it really deserve now 3 days on your blog? There’s nothing, maybe not more important, but at least more pressing?

I think more people are jumping on the bandwagon to bash the present administration because of the big build-up. People were expecting their lives to improve with Obama and the Democrats. But instead their lives continue to descend further and further into hell. And had the Republicans been called out on their outrageous actions, perhaps we wouldn’t be in our current predicament. There is no more pressing issue than corrupt government officials be they Democrat OR Republican as this is the root cause of our demise.

Nancy Peosi and the Dims will pay in November. I thank God every day this administrations’s policies are being soundly rejected by the American people. ( HealthCare, Cap/Trade, Closing GitMo, Civilian trials for Terrorists all seem to have gone by the wayside).

Corruption is the issue here. It can be put in check by electing the most honest, values based candidates we can find.
That is men and women who live by the 10 Commandments, the Golden Rule, and follow the US Constitution…People who do that will have no problem doing whats right for US.
Any less will be unacceptable…

Kumbaya and Halleluyah! Because if there’s one thing the American public can do, it’s weed out the hypocrites. Vote her out on values, sure, but values can be demagogued just like everything else, it’s probably the easiest. By all means vote for the religious right if you agree with their priorities. I do not on either a religious or political level. I have a hard time believing that Jesus is more worried about gay marriage than stewardship of the earth or helping the poor, but that’s just me.
