Folks, quick note from the dictation machine. I have to tell you that a general review of news and comments regarding the outcome of the Massachusetts general elections is highly disappointing. I am under the very strong belief that;
1) Almost everybody including politicians, the media, and the general public, are assessing the outcome of the election in terms of the political ramifications; who gets to run away with all the fun prizes and who was the loser. There is little thought going into advancing public policy increasing freedom and expanding the economy and strengthening our Constitution. There has been some talk of how to “Save” the health care deal or about how health care is “Dead.” This kind of talk helps no one.
Special note: I do have to congratulate Democrats Obama and Frank for statements about not jamming through a health care bill before Brown is seated. I hope they stick to those statements.
2) Neither the Democrats nor the Republicans seem to understand what happened in this election. It was about the President’s policies, particularly healthcare but also cap and trade and the economic stimulus (I refer to it as the failed so-called economic stimulus).
3) President Obama seems determined to reach out and communicate with the American people but his style of communication still seems to be one where he is going to talk and we the people are going to listen to his sage words. There doesn’t seem to be any intent on really listening and really understanding. “Reaching across the aisle” in Mr. Obama’s view has evolved from –“reach across the aisle and drag you to this side and to my point of view” — to — “reach across the aisle and persuade you to my point of view.” Sometimes “reaching across the aisle” means working with your political opponents, not just babbling. There still is a complete lack of understanding on the President’s part that he is president of the entire united states of America, and as such needs to craft policy for the entire United States of America. He is still “fighting” for one side over the other which is a continuation of the typical nonsense from politicians and not change that anyone should believe in.
4) Of course there is that Republican leadership thing. I am not going to hold my breath until the Republicans figure out that the most important component of leadership is communication. I’ve said it before and now I will repeat it: “Republican,” has become a term for “Lousy communicator.”

The Dems are between a rock and a hard place. If they attempt to jam the healthcare bill through Americans will reject them, if they don’t jam the healthcare bill through, it dies and their own supporters will reject them.
Robert,
I have to say you are an excellent writer! You always seem to nail it on the head!
Kim, thank you!
