Lesson on Haiti: Enough with the UN and global warming fanaticism

Claudia Rosett at  Pajamas Media has an insightful commentary on United Nations performance in disaster relief.  Rosett writes of the UN response to the 2004 tsunami in Asia, “The real champions of relief were the U.S. military, and private aid groups.”  Further, Rosett explains that efforts at UN reform “consisted of a lot of talk about reform, a lot more bureaucracy, a lot more money for the UN, and, if possible, even less transparency.”

I have long believed that the United Nations is a combination of good intentions on the part of many in the world, but….., as a result of good intentions mixed with a fair dose of naiveté, the UN has become a platform for tyrants, whackos, and of course, the wealth transfer crowd.  Enter global warming.

Rosett makes a point so insightful that I wish I had made it myself;

“Imagine if the resources poured into the UN’s Bali-Rio-Geneva-NY confabs that culminated with that climate cult carnival in Copenhagen last month had instead gone into UN preparations to deal with genuine emergencies, like this in Haiti.”

Folks, I am neither global warming supporter nor denier.  I am a very strong believer in the power of capitalism, and the inherent freedom that goes with capitalism to do good.  I believe in the power of individuals to do what is best for themselves and that in doing so there is a halo affect that benefits all of society – i.e. if person A earns money they can use it to pay person B.  I have often written of my support for alternative energy and that it be brought about via free markets.  I believe that alternative energy is the solution to much of the war, terrorism, and tyranny at work in world today.  It is also the solution to the problem of global warming, assuming such a solution is needed (and if a solution is not needed refer back to alternative energy as a solution to war, terrorism, and tyranny).

The “UN’s Bali-Rio-Geneva-NY confabs that culminated with that climate cult carnival in Copenhagen” was worse than a waste of money.  As Rosett makes clear, this fanatical effort at wealth transfer disguised as environmentalism diverted the world’s attention from activities that could now, today, as you read this, be saving lives.

The lessons so far on Haiti are many.  Among them, is the reinforcement of a fact long known by many; that the UN is an organization best suited for talk among nations but as an organization for aid and peacekeeping it is inefficient at best and so corrupt that sending scarce resources via the UN is cruelty to those in need.  Perhaps most important, the global warming fanatics that participated in or supported the Copenhagen conference have some explaining and apologizing to do.  Perhaps they can apply their fanaticism to productive efforts at saving lives – There is no question of that need.

In sum, the biggest lesson so far on Haiti; the UN and global warming are both enormous wastes of resources and as such, they are the definition of inhumanity.
