Partisan nonsense over Christmas terrorist

I have been reading a bit on the partisanship that has ensued in our post-Christmas terrorist attempt era, and I am a little perplexed about a couple of things.

First, why in God’s name would any sensible Republican attempt to make a partisan point out of an attempted terrorist attack?  Such an action would be un-American at best during this time of war.  Further, didn’t the shoe-bomber attempt an attack under the Bush administration, and didn’t 9/11 happen under a Republican administration?

To have blamed those events on Bush, as many Democrats and liberals did, was wrong and foolish.  So the Republicans have decided to mimic the Democrats???  Or was my earlier question in which I used the phrase, “sensible Republican,” fundamentally flawed in the assumption that those attempting to make political points could be sensible?

I am perplexed about more than just attempts to score political points over an attempted terrorist attack.  After 9/11 there was no shortage of nut-jobs in government and other places that were blaming the attacks and/or the subsequent fall of the towers on Bush, or Cheney, or Rove (see Rep. Cynthia McKinney, Rosie O’Donnel, etc).  There were also nut-jobs that did and still do believe that Bush/Cheney/Rove blew up the levies to flood New Orleans.  The problem in the cases of 9/11 and the levies was that there was no major outcry from the left; no full fledged denunciation of these crazies.  There was nothing in the form of solid liberal leadership that stood up and said, “No.  This is not true.  It is pure foolishness to accuse the president of the United States, the vice president, or his staff of perpetrating such things and you who say differently destroy your credibility and don’t deserve to be considered viable members of Congress, the media, or even the media entertainment world.”

So can I blame Republicans for trying to make political points when Democrats tried and did make those points under Republican presidents?

Yes.  Foolishness is foolishness no matter which party commits the foolish act.

We need a new political party in our nation.  Mind Your Own Damn Business Politics.

Is it partisan to point out the failings of your rivals? It MAY be but the ones doing the pointing out could be and ARE right. When it comes to this administration’s mistakes, failings, and general lack of common sense, my finger is really tired….

Bob, you know that I track right along with you most of the time, but like my pal Diomedes, I have to wonder if it’s really partisanship when truth is declared.

I’m reminded of a Swayze line from Roadhouse (yeah, I admit I watched it and LIKED it)… he’s teaching a bunch of beefhead bar bouncers how to “be nice” to troublemakers when one guy asks, “What if someone calls my momma a whore?” Swayze replies coolly, “Is she?” Such questions seem entirely appropriate in this case.
