Healthcare reformers and opponents: You’ve been used by vote buying pols

What if it was the Republicans that had soaked the nation for $1.2 billion in earmarks as part of a piece of landmark, highly partisan, legislation? What if it were the Democrats that were tossed to the sidelines while at the same time Republicans auctioned off their support for this major piece of legislation to secure big spending in their districts; spending these members of Congress will use to buy their reelections?

Democrats would be furious. And rightfully so.

The Democrats would do everything they could to fight this abuse of the people’s money. But when it was all over and the fighting was history, the Republicans would still win votes by pointing to the vast treasures they had brought back from Washington. Americans are very happy to get some of other people’s money.

The scenario above was a hypothetical situation. The party currently buying votes is the Democratic Party because they are the party in power – so they can. Cash for Cloture is Cash for Votes. The blog Sweetness and Light reports that the Congressional Budget Office told legislators Sunday night that the“CBO Says Reid’s Vote Buying Cost $1.2B.” According to White House strategist David Axelrod, these deals that amount to vote buying are “the way it will always be.”

Now that’s change I can believe in!

And you have to love Harry Reid’s comments that, “So this legislation is no different than the defense bill we just spent $600 billion on.” According to columnist Dana Milbank at the Washington Post, that bill had 1,700 earmarks, and Reid said, “It’s no different than other pieces of legislation.

Please don’t bother to explain to me that my example of Republicans buying votes is reality and not just a hypothetical example. I am well aware that Republicans also buy votes by granting favors to their supporters. Earmarks are both party’s bread and butter. Washington DC is a giant feeding trough; the powerful spread our money around so that they can remain in power, but never has Congress tossed around such staggering dollar figures.

One of the principles of this blog, number 5, is that we need to enforce separation of power when our party is in office for the day when our party is out of office. This principle applies to any type of power expansion or abuse of power. The Democrats won’t always be in power. I have no doubt that when Republicans return to power they will pull similar stunts; the job of a politician is, after-all, to get reelected. Democrats will be, as my scenario suggests, very angry.

Or, we can, as a nation, demand the earmarks come out of this bill and every other bill going forward.

Folks, we can either allow the Axelrods of the world to win with their declarations that this is “the way it will always be,” and allow these people to remain in power by transferring our money into vote buying schemes, or, We the People, all of the people, both health care reform supporters and opponents, can say, Enough!

Do you want to do something for the long term good of your country? Write or call your members of Congress (info available at: congress.org) and tell them “Enough with earmarks.” Then every November, ignore party lines and vote your principles.

I’ve sent emails, made phones calls to my 2 senators and ditto to Blanche Lincoln/Ben Nelson…Pretty much blown off by staffers…

These socialists DO NOT care what we think and are ready to lose the next election in order to shove this big government power grabbing program down our collective throats. This wildly unpopular health care bill is what the democrat party has been having a collective orgasms over for the last 70 years. Now it looks like they’re going to have it, thanks to whores like Harry Reid, Ben Nelson, et al… Thank God we live in a representative democracy and not a dictatorship? Right…It’s the one party dictatorship…November can’t come fast enough…But it may be too late…

Does anyone besides me hope for Flight 93 to rise from the Pennsylvania field and continue on it’s intended mission of taking out the Capitol bldg and all elected muckrakers who vote for this unpopular and truly damaging piece of democrat trash…In November, let’s take the trash out for good…

It’s Obama that’s driving the HealthcareTakeover Express, could you aim that plane at the whitehouse? But just hit the “LeftWing”…

I ” know”(hope) you guys are speaking figuratively…But I just wanted to say that I would be totally against any violence, real or implied against any corrupt, self-serving, truly obnoxious elected officials…
There are many unstable, leftwing nuts who may go predictively
insane at the lack of a “Public Option”….So don’t give them any ideas…

I believe I’m ( we )speaking in parables…maybe tongues… Jesus, on His birthday, got off his lounge chair and threw the corrupt Pharisees (Pols), out of OUR Congressional Halls for being selfish, spoiled, special interest driven, lacking in leadership, and good sense…Oh, and corrupt….

But I like where you ended up, Juno…

Please don’t tell people like Lynn Obambaton to “vote her principles”…If all her fellow “intellectuals” and the “urbanites” vote their “principles”, we’ll just have more of the same only worse , as they will be further emboldened toward the big government agenda and supported by their Mainstream Media” partners in deceit”.

This soundin’ pretty racist to me. Is the word “urbanites” code for black peoples, ? Why do you people have such aproblem with Obama ? He trying to to the best he can for the peoples, but it seems like everything he does he get critisied for. What is wrong with trying to help the people? The peoples are in need. Most of the mens in my family are unemployed, but I think it’s because of the economy. Nobody gots any money, except what we get from the county. I get food stamps thanks to Barak and the government , otherwize my babies would go hungry. Now i’ll be able to take them for regular checkups and free drugs. Praize Obama. Thanks God for Obama….

Are you serious?? Maybe Obama will tutor you in basic English…. And I do believe it was white intellectuals and black urbanites who put this smiling economic idiot in office…I feel very sorry for your situation but without remedial English skills, you will always wallow in poverty and voting for Obama because he “gives” you stuff, will seal your fate…

I don’t think you have to be a weatherman to see which way the wind is blowin’ here….Just be careful what you say, this administration has it’s left ear to the blogs…And you’ll need more then ObamaCare to fix your problems….
