According to CNN (television), many of the National Basketball Association’s jerseys made by Adidas will no longer be manufactured in the U.S. That is a shame.
Senator Charles Schumer, (D-NY) is now pressuring Adidas to reverse its decision and if that doesn’t work he will pressure the NBA to pressure Adidas.
The Senator should stay out of private business – Mind His Own Damn Business Politics. If he is upset about businesses leaving the U.S. he should change course and work to lower taxes, not raise them. Had Congress been working to lower taxes during Schumer’s time in office Adidas might not be outsourcing the business and a lot of other business might stay in the U.S. as well.
But lowering taxes means less control and less to boast about to constituents at reelection time. That doesn’t win the hearts of lifelong members of the political class like Schumer.
When Congress “gives” something to the people they are really taking that something from someone else. Everything has a cost and this time it was the jobs of some clothing makers near Buffalo.
