What the White House now has in the Truther and Green Jobs Czar, Van Jones, is a credibility problem. How does the President expect people to take him seriously fighting death panel stories, birther conspiracys, and denying socialist goals, now that he has appointed a real live honest to God paranoid conspiracist, or Truther as they’re called, to his staff?
And what about the pundits and bloggers (like me) and public officials that have denounced the birthers and death panelists? Were we wrong to take a stand in support of the President? How could we be right when the Van Jones appointment signifies acceptance of some the silliest elements in Truther and conspiracy lore?
Does this appointment as Green Jobs Czar add credibility to the environmental movement? Environmentalists, where are you on this!!
Maybe it is all okay, because Van Jones’ conspiracies were about the evil Bush/Cheney/Rove era. Those conspiracy theories are different because…???

their???????? How ’bout they’re. Miss class that day??
Jack, Thank you! “Miss class that day??” Probably worse. Good catch on that typo/mindo. My editor is out today so I am fully exposed.
The whole GOP are ass holes, big time, they can kiss my $$$ they talk so much about church and God , while inside them, they are the most evil, because they are the most hateful people in the face of the earth, so they are the biggest ass holes.
Why are these people so powerful? Why do we bend over backwards to appease Right-wing hate and paranoia? Oh, it’s “communism”, it’s “socialism”, this is “Nazi Germany”, “the President’s a Muslim”, “they’re gonna euthanize old people”, “he’s gonna indoctrinate my kid”. OH MY GOD! What doesn’t set off a conservative furor? I blame the press for legitimizing this lunacy. I blame them for defiling reality just to avoid being called “liberal”.
Gosh, I am a member of the GOP and I’m not an a–hole, and even though I am sinful, I am not evil. Maybe those who decry hatred and call names should look inside themselves before they spew their ugliness to others. As for Mr. Jones, I think that he maybe a bit too far outside the bounds of “normalcy” to be an effective member of the administration. Maybe BHO is running out of people he trusts for appopinted jobs so he has moved on to the second page of his list.
We all know the answer, of course, it’s because THAT was about the evil administration of Bush, not about the hope & change, butterflies & moonbeams administration of Obama. I suppose the fact that Van Jones was (is still?) a communist would not necessarily be a problem in the socialistic-leaning current administration.
john,
What a clever, well-thought out, reasonable response to a legitimate question about the President and his judgement, or lack thereof. Perfectly aligned with this blog’s stated slogan of “A movement toward critical thinking in politics”.
Sorry, sir…we need to grow up, and come to grips with the idea that if someone disagrees with your point of view, it’ s not because of hatred or evil. It’s likely due to critical and logical thinking about an issue, rather than an emotional knee-jerk reaction. Stop, take a breath, and try to see the world through someone else’s eyes. Isn’t that “liberal”?
Do you guys even know what socialism is? Do you know that the Cold War is over?
FYI Joan, and please cc Hilary on this before she pops a vein:
Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of Socialism:
1 : any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods – GM, HEALTHCARE
2 : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state-GM, HEALTHCARE
3 : a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done-TAXING THE WEALTHY , CAP AND TRADE
It’s a matter of degrees, Joan, the more government gets it’s tentacles in, the more socialistic we become. What part of “governmental ownership and administration” don’t you understand? Bush’s massive spending programs and TARP were examples of moving towards socialism in his administration. And before him, Social Security and Medicare are examples of socialism.
So do not try to suggest we do not currently live in a certain degree of socialism already. More government involvment, more socialism…get it?
Van Jones is a coward for backing down from his 9/11 stance….. please please please do a little google research on building 7, or just google Maj General Albert Stubblebine, who is now on record saying he is sure that it was not a plane that hit the pentagon…. the video footage from the sheraton across the street still 8 yrs later has not been released….. all I’m saying is if you want to be a skeptic fine….but PLEASE at least view ALL the things that the conspiracy nuts claim are facts, before you dismiss 3 or 4 things and say they are all unwarrented. There is literally a list of 30 -40 things that don’t match up that day….. watch the free google video “Loose Change Final Cut” And then if your still not scared of the truth watch “Zeitgeist Addendum” Stop being sheeple….. In the very least you will know all the conspiracy nuts know, and you can refute them when they speak up…. right….
Yes, those conspiracy theories are different because THEY ARE TRUE! If you think they are of a silly kind, please read the relevant informaion materials. Just go to 911truth.org and read some materials offered there with open mind. You may find yourself in a complete surprise.
Van Jones………smart guy, well educated, some good ideas. Too bad he’s probably a radical and hates white people.
