President Obama likes his teleprompter. The President’s critics love his teleprompter!
On Monday, the President’s teleprompter tipped over and smashed. This is the most recent in a series of teleprompter mishaps to the President and to the Vice President. I think God may be suggesting that the President learn to be a bit more spontaneous.
At the same time, commons sense should tell us that any president, whose every word and gesture is analyzed beyond the extreme, should speak with great care.
Perhaps the President’s use of a teleprompter, most of the time, should be seen as a plus. Using a speech that is prepared and well thought out cuts down the potential for gaffes. And I have to point out the obvious to those that make statements like, “we don’t need a president, just a teleprompter,” and “Teleprompter and Chief,” that the President’s remarks are his and not the machine’s. Teleprompters are nothing more than a device to replace written text in the President’s hands. We could go back to speeches written out on paper, but that wouldn’t be green.
President Obama has given those of us that count ourselves among the President’s critics plenty to be critical of. Perhaps we should focus on those issues of substance and leave the teleprompter jokes to the late night comedians.

I have to disagree on one point conveyed in your post. Often times, Obama does not write what is read off the teleprompter – it is written by speech writers. I also want to point out that Obama does not use the teleprompter as a replacement to paper but rather uses it to the point where anything that comes across on the teleprompter, he reads. May I point out the time when he began to re-introduce people without thinking about it? Therein lies the problem. Obama does not use the teleprompter as an aid but rather uses it as his brain.
Maybe the wizard of Oz can help him with his brain problem.
