One of the most potent criticisms of President Bush was his insistence on continuing a policy even when it was clear that his policy was not working. Bush is gone but the Bush style tunnel vision remains within the White House and Congress.
President Obama’s economic stimulus plan is not working. Whether you take the view of Nobel prize winning economist Paul Krugman that we need to spend much much more on stimulus, the opposing view that we need to allow the recession run its natural course, or my view which is to implement an immediate tax withholding holiday, you can’t help but recognize that to stay the course is to make a bad policy worse. To continue the stimulus plan is to offer our children’s future as collateral for our mistakes.
As I wrote yesterday, the government has spent only about 11% of the stimulus dollars. So today, I want to point out that there is still time to rescind the stimulus package, put the country onto the correct course by letting us keep and spend the money we earn. That will be economic stimulus that can help our nation and the world today and in the future.
That President Obama could recognize his error and Change course would be Change we could all believe in.
