Georgia Driver’s Cell Phone Exemption

Dear readers:

Through the process of observation over several years I have come to the conclusion that Georgia drivers must be allowed to cross over the center line if they do it while highly engaged on their cell phone. Clearly there is also a sub-point to the law that doubly exempts drivers that do this on winding roads and simply cannot be bothered with the extra effort those curves require.

I found the Georgia Driver’s Manual here, which I thought contained all the important laws, but I have been unable to find this specific exemption. So I am asking for help. This is just a matter of personal curiosity. It has no great significance to this blog or anything else. However, if you are familiar with the code or if you have a few minutes to search the code at the above link, could you please point this exemption out to me?

Thank you all!

Robert S. Siegel

I think I may have found it. The third paragraph on the first page clearly states “The information contained in this handbook is not intended to be an official legal reference to the Georgia traffic laws.”

I’m not a lawyer (I don’t make enough money) or a cop (I make too much money), but it must not be important enough to address, even in an unofficial document.

While we are the topic, what can we do about the people who can’t get up 5 minutes earlier to tend to their hygiene and end up shaving and/or putting on make-up while driving. If I wanted to watch you get ready for work, I would have asked.

You forgot to mention the fact these drivers don’t have any arm strength, as demonstrated by the body positioning while on the phone (head almost in the middle of the front seat).

As for Bruwayne’s last comment, I’ve always wanted to roll down my window at some of these folks and say “It doesn’t help….maybe next time wear a paper bag on your head”.
