Hurricane Irma Makes Landfall, Wipes Out Power for 1.3 Million

"Our three private properties in Florida - The Mar-a-Lago Club, Trump International Gold Club, Palm Beach and Trump National Golf Club, Jupiter have all been closed".

Public Safety Director Kirk Blouin told the Palm Beach Daily he's not aware of any extra storm protection underway at Mar-a-Lago, and a local reporter who drove by the property told CNN she saw no exterior preparations. Thoughts and prayers for Mar-a-Lago. Please relocate west of US-1 until this storm passes if you do not plan to depart the county/state.

Trump has repeatedly returned to his Mar-a-Lago property since becoming president, both to relax and to conduct state business.

"Irma is a potentially catastrophic category 5 hurricane and will bring life-threatening wind, storm surge, and rainfall hazards" to areas it might affect, the National Hurricane Center says. Even in 1992, when the historic Hurricane Andrew cost Florida about $25 billion in damage at the time, there was relatively little damage around Palm Beach. "I was there for all of [the hurricanes]".

Irma, which is now is battering the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico with 185-mph winds, landed in Barbuda earlier today.

The storm's path took it directly over the island of St. Martin, where President Trump owns a five-acre estate known as Ch√Ęteau des Palmiers.

But Trump got back on track, issuing his video warning people in Irma's path to get out now.

French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb told AFP that "the four most solid buildings on the island have been destroyed, which means that more rustic structures have probably been completely or partially destroyed".

Mr Trump said he received a $17m insurance payment in 2005 for damage at his Mar-a-Lago resort caused by Hurricane Wilma, but digging by the Associated Press found "little evidence" of large-scale damage to the property.
