With David Johnson possibly out for an extended period, the Arizona Cardinals have added a Patriots running back to the roster. Assuming the length of the absence holds true, Johnson would likely be placed on injured reserve as one of the Cardinals' players designated to return later in the season, per Schefter. The initial report from ESPN's Chris Mortensen stated that Johnson could either "miss a "few weeks" or 'half the season or more, '" which would be the case if the wrist was fractured.
"Johnson's wrist surgery has an 8-to-12 week timetable", according to the team. If he does return, the time table would be early to mid-December.
Veteran Chris Johnson re-signed with the Cardinals on Tuesday, less than two weeks after the team released him September 1.
Chris Johnson, once one of the NFL's best backs in his days with the Tennessee Titans, knows the Cardinals offense well because he spent the last two seasons with the team. Coach Bruce Arians said Monday that David Johnson's injury was the same as that of Arizona rookie T.J. Logan.
He said the Cardinals drafted Johnson in 2015 to play behind Andre Ellington that season. In two seasons with Arizona, Johnson has rushed for 909 yards and four touchdowns. Start combing practice squads? "We've got quality guys on our team and it's an opportunity for somebody to step up".
The news on David Johnson certainly isn't good.
Johnson was hurt while making a 24-yard reception. The ground game was never able to gain any traction against the Lions front seven, only mustering 23 yards on 11 carries.
