ICC Women's World Cup

Mithali's HEROES arrive home! Skipper Raj says that despite losing, women's cricket is very much on the up in India

Asked what more do they want from the board, Raj said, "If you ask me, I am playing since 1999, when there were no monetary benefits but you should ask the question to those who have come now".

Earlier, utter chaos prevailed as Mithali arrived at the Hyderabad Airport from Delhi as there were no proper arrangements to receive the champion cricketer. The way she has led the side is remarkable.

The players said that this was the first time that they had seen a Prime Minister tweet for the women's cricket team.

Australia-slayer Harmanpreet Kaur, the nation's darling after her unbeaten 171 run knock in the semi-finals, said her stint with the Sydney Thunder in the women's Big Bash contributed to her overall development displayed at the Cup.

This year itself Mithali scored 10 fifty-plus scores in Women's ODIs which is the most by a batswoman in a calendar year in ODIs.

India Women won many a hearts during their stunning run in the recently-concluded ICC Women's World Cup 2017 in England. Though cricket is a way of life in India, still, women's cricket was an unknown term.

According to a source close to Mithali, "A player can not be running around to get what was promised to her". We thought you would sure to win in the final too. But I would have preferred to be a winning captain.

Star batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur, who along with Smriti played the Women's Big Bash League past year, seconded Mithali's call for an Indian Premier League-styled T20 tournament in India.

The Telangana government has announced a cash prize of Rs 1 crore and a house plot for skipper Mithali Raj. "I am proud that we lost after giving a fight", she added. I hope all the other Indian players get a chance in such leagues which will help in their overall development. "I have also watched the match", a statement from the Chief Minister's office quoted him as saying.
