Zaire transferred from Notre Dame.

An impressionable young kid from Larose was watching that night, inspired to life-changing levels by the heroics.

Louisiana State's rushing offense has been among the best in all of college football over the past couple of years, but the same can not be said for its air attack.

Guice, arriving in style with a salmon sport coat, bowtie and pocket square, has embraced the role as lead back in LSU's offense. He watched other coaches coach and talked to many others.

Along the way, Orgeron built a reputation.

The man known as Coach O is isn't the first head coach to bottom out in this conference at one school only to earn a second shot somewhere else.

But in Orgeron's return trip to Hoover - his first visit since 2007 when he was still Ole Miss' head coach - the Tigers' Cajun captain wanted to make sure all the media present understood his new squad remains on par with the Tide. "We won nine games". Part of it, not unfairly, comes from his previous failings as a full-time head coach - in the same division he is now coaching.

And it blew up.

Guice said the most impressive thing he's seen with Etling isn't anything about how he has recovered from his back injury but instead how he has handled dealing with the players who are trying to take his job.

Ed Orgeron hired Canada in January and has high expectations for his impact "We are really excited about Matt, he came in and did a great job interviewing, talking to people I knew, I did some research, they said I would love him, he's high tempo, scores points, averaged 43 points per game, Dave gives up fifteen, we ought to be in good shape if we do that but I really like the way he coaches with high energy". After all, he's already been fired from one SEC job - MS in 2007 after three years. "But I will say this as the head coach at LSU, I will always do my best to protect the state of Louisiana". I did the things that I did as a D line coach that had been successful. It didn't work at Ole Miss.

Orgeron had numerous conversations with his two mentors - Jimmy Johnson and Pete Carroll.

"Haha I like that. but when you actually play and get some stats come back and try again", Guice wrote. No different. And I was going to treat every coach on the staff with respect and let him coach his position as he knew it.

Since then, Orgeron is 12-4 at two top-tier programs. And I still need to prove that. "We got them at home this year, right?"

So he found himself in that purple and gold, as LSU's defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

He added that quarterback Danny Etling, who led the Tigers last season after Week 2, would be LSU's starter if they played tomorrow.

Joe Alleva, the LSU athletics director, learned from Haden's mistake.

"It is what it is", said Orgeron, referring to his team's SEC schedule. He's succeeded as an interim guy for a pair of teams starving for fresh leadership. "My "why" ... I want better for my family". We need to prepare. I don't feel the pressure, but I do acknowledge that it's out there. "I know the first time I was catching with him I was expecting to loaf it and he threw it real hard and I was like, 'Whoa, whoa, you don't have to show me all your strength now.' But he's definitely feeling real healthy".
