The Angamaly judicial first class magistrate on Saturday rejected the bail plea of Malayalam actor Dileep, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the South Indian actress' kidnap and assault case.
The court has denied Dileep bail because it was convinced that releasing him from police custody might lead to witnesses and even the victim getting influenced.
Dileep's counsel said they would move a higher court seeking bail.
On Friday, a huge crowd had gathered in front of the court premises and booed the actor just like they did on the previous days. He waved at the people before boarding the police van.
Police raided Dileep's house in search of the smartphone and memory card.
The court had accepted a request by the police and extended the actor's custody till Saturday 5 pm.
The special prosecutor contended that Dileep should not be granted bail and if he is, there are chances that he would try to destroy the evidence. It was argued that Dileep's non-cooperation with the ongoing investigation was not helping the case. This is what is prompting the police to arrest Appunni. Dileep has been remanded till July 25.
Police in its remand report had claimed that Dileep had developed a grudge against the actress for letting his former wife know about his alleged affairs and hatched a conspiracy to take revenge way back in 2013.
Six persons, including "Pulsar" Suni, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Breaking her silence on July 13, the actress had expressed the hope that truth would come out in the case.
