Powerball fever is back

The jackpot is the tenth biggest in USA history and has odds of winning that are one in 292 million.

The last Powerball drawing to produce a jackpot victor was on April 1, said California Lottery spokesman Mike Bond.

Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, as well as Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

A single winning ticket for a whopping $447.8 million Powerball lottery jackpot was sold by the Marietta Liquor and Deli store in Sun City, California, the California Lottery said on late Saturday.

No one has matched all the balls drawn in the Powerball game since April 1, when a player in Arizona won $60 million.

The odds of winning are one in 292.2 million. A jackpot closing in on half a billion dollars will do that. The money comes from a separate fund that is not part of the winner's jackpot.

Miller said the estimated jackpot prize is based on a victor choosing an annuity, which pays off over 29 years.

Although a New Yorker didn't win that historic prize, people in the Empire State benefit the most from lottery tickets than any other state, according to data from the Ohio-based North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries.
