This President knows in his heart that to make America safe again we must also restore the tradition of respect and honor that is owed to every member of the law enforcement community in America.

A Police Memorial Day service will take place Monday in Savannah.

Huntington Police Chief Joe Ciccarelli said the theme for this year's National Peace Officers Memorial Day was "A Legacy of Honor", which is a trait present in each of his officers. "The names of more than 21,000 men and women who wore the uniform grace the Memorial walls, and they deserve all the recognition this day bestows on them".

"This all began back in the mid-1960's", he said, "when there was a lot of civil rights unrest, and President Kennedy established a special law enforcement day".

Trump directed the Department of Justice earlier this this year to develop a strategy to better prevent violence against law enforcement officers.

Officers from all over Minnesota have traveled to the State Police Memorial, where they stand in silent vigil for 30-minute shifts.

President Donald Trump is paying tribute to the "brave souls" who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

As CBS News reported, 118 officers died in the line of duty in 2016, and 66 of those were "victims of malicious attacks". Each year at the memorial service, they catch up with old friends who served alongside a loving husband and father.

I would suggest that citizens of Madison and communities throughout the state thank any police officer they see, for what they do and have done, not only during National Police Week, but everyday they are out there working unselfishly for you.

"They've had it with what's going on, and we're going to get it taken care of".
