Sonic Mania is set to release on August 15, 2017 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
However, Sonic Mania marks a return to its former Genesis glory days. When it goes live we'll announce that here on Nintendo Wire. It also has a new trailer with equal parts lovely sketch animations, nostalgia-laden pixel art, and some rad chiptune rock. The game will have new zones, as well as re-envisioned ones from the older games, with new paths and new secrets for players to discover. Harness Sonic's new drop dash, Tails' flight, and Knuckles' climbing abilities to overcome the evil Dr. Eggman's robots.
Developed by Christian Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games in collaboration with Sega of America. Did you notice the elevator going from Sonic 1, through 2, 3, and Knuckles, all the way up to Mania?
Sonic Mania is one of two Sonic the Hedgehog games coming in 2017.
The pixelated retro sidescroller was originally planned for a spring release, but it was delayed for the developer to put on the finishing touches. But whatever the case may be, it won't be too long before we're spin-dashing around levels the way we used to when we were younger. Sonic Mania attempts to get back to the series' roots, offering true 2D Sonic gameplay.
