Crew chief Mike Wheeler was fined $10,000 for the infraction.

Logano on Thursday was all but stripped of his victory at Richmond because his auto failed a post-race inspection at NASCAR's North Carolina headquarters. Even though Logano will be officially and forever recognized as the victor of Sunday's race, the win does not qualify him for the playoffs.

Logano was penalized 30 minutes of practice time at the start of Richmond weekend for swerving after the previous race at Bristol. The specific problem was with the truck-trailing arm spacer along with the pinion angle shim.

"As part of the new 2017 points system, drivers earn one playoff point for a stage win and five playoff points for a race win, plus the top 10 in the final regular-season standings earn playoff points on a 15-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 scale".

Thursday, NASCAR ruled Logano's win in the Toyota Owners 400 has been encumbered, meaning it will not count toward the playoffs. The 26-year-old driver said the violation is considered minor and didn't make his vehicle any faster.

"The fact of the matter is we're winning right now, and when your vehicle wins, it gets put through tech a lot".

Brad Keselowski, Logano's teammate, was penalized after his No. 2 auto failed postrace inspection following a fifth-place finish March 19 race at Phoenix International Raceway. Because the victory is encumbered, Logano still receives credit for winning; however he can not use the win to earn playoff eligibility nor receive the five bonus playoff points he received. "With the track bar being attached to the left side truck arm, most of all the pieces, at least from what I understand and maybe I'm missing some things, all the skew-related pieces are going to happen on the left side".

"Honestly, I don't believe that we wear a black hat or anything like that", Logano said. "We'll have Miles our race engineer, which is involved with every step of the way every single week with Todd every weekend, so that will be a great fit. When you're a little bit over, we're sitting talking about what we are today". Logano also incurred a 25-point driver points penalty, and the team was docked 25 owner points.
