Volkswagen's ID Crozz Crossover EV Concept Revealed In Shanghai

"Offering our electric cars for prices similar to combustion engine vehicles really is a game changer", Christian Senger, head of the automaker's electric auto efforts, told Bloomberg. The concept auto that is now making its debut in Shanghai illustrates just how multifaceted the range of these future Volkswagen electric models will be in the year 2020.

2025: sales of electric vehicles will account for 20 to 25% of the total production of the world's largest auto group (Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat, ...).

Regulators have jolted the industry with a proposal to require electrics to account for at least 8 percent of each brand's production by next year, rising to 10 percent in 2019 and 12 percent in 2020.

On Tuesday, Volkswagen debuted its I.D. Crozz: an all-electric crossover SUV that "underlines just how diverse the range of future Volkswagen electric models is going to be", the automaker wrote in a press release. This gives the I.D. We got to see I.D Buzz in Detroit and now there is a new concept that is being included in the lineup.

The 4,625mm-long I.D. Crozz delivers interior space roughly in line with the new extended-wheelbase Tiguan Allspace, though it lacks the internal combustion production car's third row of seating. "Pilot" mode, which is said to make full autonomous driving capabilities available at the touch of the VW logo on the steering wheel.

The I.D. CROZZ is powered by a capable battery with an output of 225 kW, good for a top speed of 180 km/h and a driving range of 500 kilometers (NEDC). The battery will also be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in just 30 minutes from a rapid charger. All it takes is a light push on the VW badge on the steering wheel to activate this autonomous mode. VW is aiming to integrate self-driving feature into all of its I.D. production models. This system uses varied levels of filtration to clean the air inside the vehicle and is controlled through an interface in the infotainment system that will display the current air quality outside. It is due to be produced under a new brand name with a local partner, state-owned Jianghuai Automotive Corp.

Among the most outlandish propositions to be included in the Crozz include an augmented reality feed, which is meant to provide information to drivers in real-time. The large newly-developed panoramic sunroof can be activated by gesture control. CROZZ expresses its electric mobility DNA in every component. The Crozz has a very sculpted body side, with muscular rear haunches and lower scallops on the doors. "The light elements - C-shaped LED daytime running lights and variably controllable LED headlights - merge to form a front end with electronic moving "eyes" ('Interactive Spotlight").

Electric drive is redefining space.

The I.D. CROZZ Concept can be controlled via smart device so there's no keyfob required.

How much will the Volkswagen ID Crozz concept cost? CROZZ directs the suspension and drivetrain modules to the far outsides of the vehicle.

An 83kWh lithium-ion battery sits beneath the passenger compartment's floor.
