Spice Girls' Mel B filed a restraining against her husband Stephen Belafonte on the grounds he has been subjecting her to years of domestic abuse and violence. The singer and America's Got Talent judge allegedly claims in the order that she was in an emotionally weak state when she married Belafonte in June 2007 in Las Vegas.
The singer, whose full name is Melanie Brown, stated in her court documents that, in November 2007, on the night of her Dancing with the Stars finale, Mr Belafonte grabbed her around the neck, choking her and throwing her to the floor.
Mel B reportedly said that Belafonte would "beat me down to let me know he was in charge".
TMZ caught up with Stephen as he was moving his stuff out of the pair's Hollywood Hills home on April 3, and although he brushed off the abuse claims without giving a direct response, he scoffed at Mel's allegations that he "forced" her into sex. Since Mel B didn't approve, Belafonte encouraged the nanny to get an abortion, but he asked Mel B for financial help so the nanny could undergo the procedure.
Belafonte is said to have sex tapes of her and has threatened to release them to ruin her career.
There is also the surprising revelation that Belafonte impregnated their nanny and even suggested that "all three of them live together" with the new baby. In addition, she claimed that in her project with Usher for Australian "X Factor" in Sydney, Belafonte became jealous to the point that he was torturing her.
According to Mel, Stephen beat her up on many occasions, got their nanny pregnant and forced her to take part in threesomes throughout their ten-year marriage. Three years ago, she said, she swallowed a bottle of aspirin as "emotional and physical exhaustion" took its toll. According to People, she filed for divorce in December 2016.
However, speaking to TMZ's photographers on Monday, Belafonte denied all the claims, saying, "I'm shocked at those allegations".
