Manchester United v West Brom preview

West Brom manager Tony Pulis has backed Jose Mourinho to get Manchester United back on track and feels the Red Devils are heading in the right direction under the Portuguese.

"The important ones are the ones who are ready to play".

Mourinho was reportedly less than impressed with Pogba's recent twitter emoji stunt, which saw his likeness displayed on all advertising boards around around the Old Trafford pitch in a match against Liverpool.

However that may not deter Mourinho, who could test the water by making a £40million offer for the player when the transfer window re-opens in the summer.

With United facing seven League games plus two quarter-final legs against Anderlecht, Mourinho says bodies have to put on the line and there is no margin for error if they are to finish in the top four.

But, they have been halted this season in the league due to points dropped at home against sides they should be beating so without some key men, this could be a tough match. The club from near Birimingham has won the league title once, but that was in 1920, long before the Premier League was established in 1992.

Manchester United defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones will miss Saturday's Premier League game against West Bromwich Albion after sustaining injuries on worldwide duty with England.

It looks unlikely for West Brom that they will be able to catch Everton in 7th place.

Manchester United great Bryan Robson has joined another club legend, Paul Scholes, in defending under-pressure midfielder Paul Pogba.

"He (Mourinho) will be given loads of time, I think".

"They're able to compete in all major competitions this year because they've got strong squads, they haven't just got 11 players".

United are thin on the ground for West Brom in defence.

"So much that I think it (trying to sign Neymar) is like trying to break into a safe; impossible".

Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United earlier in the season after spending 4-years at Juventus for a world-record fee of £89.3 million.

Before the global break, Tony Pulis's side bounced back from successive defeats against Everton and Crystal Palace with a thrilling 3-1 win at home to Arsenal, helped by a first Premier League brace from defender Craig Dawson.

"They had time to work, time to rest and prepare".
