Buster Posey placed on seven-day concussion disabled list

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey was placed on the seven-day disabled list with concussion symptoms on Tuesday, a day after he took a fastball to the helmet while batting. Nick Hundley projects to soak up most of Posey's minutes and Tim Federowicz has been called up from Triple-A to play backup.

The loudest and least forgettable sound of the afternoon was the thwack in the first inning when Taijuan Walker threw a pitch that Posey could not avoid.

"He just bowed his neck and went out there and pitched very well", San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said.

A 94 miles per hour pitch from Arizona Diamondbacks starter Taijuan Walker hit Posey in the crown of his helmet in the first inning of the Giants' 4-1 win.

Lamb got to Jeff Samardzija (0-2) with his triple in the third to extend his hitting streak to eight games after the Giants starter gave up back-to-back singles and a one-out walk to load the bases.

On Tuesday, general manager Bobby Evans said Posey was experiencing concussion symptoms, although he did not appear to lose consciousness during Monday's game, according to ESPN.

Two, if Posey's injury was going to keep him out for more than 1-2 games, a DL stint is nearly completely necessary.

"Talking to him after, he said, 'I feel fine, ' " Moore said.

Crawford added a sacrifice fly and Melancon did not allow the tying run to come to the plate while recording his second save in less than 24 hours, and his first in front of his new fans. There's a couple of guys who haven't got a hit. Hundley has three hits, including a home run, in eight career at-bats vs. Ray. He struggled to throw strikes at times, but he relied on the strikeout to get through his 5 1/3 frames.

Yet the Giants have won 13 of their last 16 home openers, going 13-4 in such games since AT&T Park opened in 2000.

Still, I think he'll be good with the victory. He was a little worn out, it was deep into his outing and I think it just happened to hit David.

Diamondbacks: Bench coach Ron Gardenhire is away from the club, with Jerry Narron the acting bench coach.

First pitch against the Arizona Dimaondbacks is slated for 1:35 p.m., but there will be plenty of pregame festivities as the Giants open their 60th season in the city by the bay.
