Trump says Planned Parenthood can keep funding if it stops abortions

According to Planned Parenthood, the bill is "a direct assault on the health and rights of millions".

President Donald Trump said he's willing to allow Planned Parenthood to keep its federal funding, but with a big caveat: The woman's health organization must stop providing abortion services.

"Planned Parenthood saves lives and those who seek to defund them should be ashamed of themselves", a spokesperson for Malloy told the Hartford Courant. Thus, federal funds do not even get used for abortion services indirectly.

The White House confirmed the deal offer in a statement to the Times.

Planned Parenthood receives upwards of $500 million in federal funding, according to the organization's annual reports.

Even if all 13.5 percent of persons living in poverty exist in the remaining pool of eligible donors, that still leaves 90,908,694 eligible donors-adults who live above the poverty line and didn't vote for Trump. We go for compassionate, affordable, high-quality health care. Planned Parenthood does not submit bills for abortions. "Without Planned Parenthood, they will have nowhere else to go".

Several Democratic Senators and House Representatives were quick to express their outrage in response, particularly in light of House Republicans releasing a plan to repeal and replace Obamacare on Monday, which would include defunding Planned Parenthood.

According to CBS, almost 400,000 women would lose access to health care if Planned Parenthood lost all federal funding.

Planned Parenthood provides care to 2.5 million people each year. But again, here's the thing: federal funding is not used to pay for abortions. Although the Supreme Court has overturned some of its decisions, like Plessy v. Ferguson due to the unconstitutionality of the decision, it is highly unlikely that it will overturn Roe v. Wade.

The Post noted that, while some Planned Parenthood affiliates sometimes host "free mammography mobile vans" for low-income or uninsured women, no affiliates have mammogram machines in their clinics.

Trump and the Republicans rewriting the health care law are willing to kill women in order to punish Planned Parenthood. "But the past few weeks have also proven that we are powerful when we stand together, and speaking out now is a critical first step".

But the major question at this point is whether cut-off of Planned Parenthood's tax dollars is contained through the new healthcare legislation created to replace Obamacare or in a separate measure altogether.

And, Richards added, there will be more to do. "If they close it down, I don't know what I'll have", said Magie Read, a Battle Ground resident.
