A recent episode of Mindy Kaling's Hulu series "The Mindy Project" had her character, Mindy Lahiri, throwing a jab at Cory Booker and the New Jersey city he was once mayor of.
Mindy Kaling attends the Vanity Fair Oscar Party at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills on February 26. Either way, it gave us some pretty adorable Twitter banter, and confirmed that Booker, like many, is a fan of The Mindy Project. "Anything to get out of Newark".
Booker, 47, then said her response was "making my day!"
Kaling, 37, replied minutes later, saying: "Senator, if Mindy Lahiri shades it, it means we know it's cool". "Thanks for the clarification".
Kaling responded affirmatively, and told him she'll check the schedule of PATH (the rail line that runs between NY and New Jersey).
Next, the senator made a bold request: "And If the [love] is really mutual. I can't believe he came.I guess anything to get out of Newark, huh?" "#PleaseSayYes", Booker flirted back.
"Thank you! PATH train is awesome when you are Jersey bound".
On Twitter, Booker then pointed to a Vogue article from February highlighting Newark's rebirth thanks to new fusion restaurants - like Halsey Street's Burger Walla, praised as offering "a fusion of American comfort food with an Indian twist" - and asked Kaling to dinner. "I will send one to you for the door to door", was Booker's next move.
